Traditional Harissa Spread
Harissa is ubiquitous in North Africa, and it’s one of my favorite condiments. We’re selling a hot and sweet red pepper version from Tunisia-based Les Moulins Mahjoub. I’d suggest you buy both. And while you can’t make North African and Middle Eastern dishes without it, harissa has so many everyday applications. Mix it with mayo and use it as the world’s best sandwich smear. Rub a piece of meat with harissa before throwing it on the grill. Make a red pepper sauce for chicken out of shallots, white wine, heavy cream and a tablespoon of harissa. Add it to this tomato chutney paired with delicious grilled scallops. Or simply use it as a substitute for hot sauce and eat it on top of eggs and pizza.
